About Breakfast

Breakfast is a very important meal of the day. What you eat for breakfast has an impact on your food selections later in the day. You may have heard the expression, “ Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper” Many people skip this meal because they are in a rush to get out of the house. They often purchase do-nuts and coffee or bagels and cream cheese or other types of fast foods.

These foods are usually loaded with sugar, preservatives and trans-fats that are not recommended for a healthy diet. When you skip breakfast you tend to snack and often eat a large lunch.

This breakfast segment is a work in progress. I will attempt to add breakfast recipes that are quick and easy to prepare, that are nutritious, will keep you full for several hours, will help to reduce sugar intake and breakfasts that will provide you with nutrition

What one eats for breakfasts varies in different cultures. In my family, growing up, we often ate roti and curry for breakfast as one of several breakfast dishes especially on weekends. Many cultures have different versions of sweet and savory breakfasts. They include Poha, scones, crumpets, muffins, bagels, toast, cereals, hot dogs, vadde, potatoes, as well as healthy alternatives such as yogurt, muesli, orange juice, and a variety of fruits. Breakfast items range from meat dishes to vegan.

The recipes in this segment will attempt to include vegetarian and vegan recipes that require minimal or no sugar, in the interests of healthy, nutritious, satisfying eating.
